スクーデリア・アルファタウリF1が、6月24日、イタリア・イモラに2020年型マシンと2018年型マシンを持ち込んでテストを行った。レースドライバーのダニール・クビアトとピエール・ガスリーが2台で周回を重ね、開幕戦への準備を整えた。

　新型コロナウイルス感染症のパンデミックにより、F1シーズン開始が延期されてきたが、7月5日オーストリアで今年最初のグランプリが開催されることが決まった。これを受けて、いくつかのチームが事前走行を行い、ドライバーとスタッフにウォームアップと新たな感染防止策に慣れるための機会を与えている。

　現行マシンでのテスト走行は厳しく制限されているため、メルセデス、ルノー、フェラーリは2018年型マシンを使用、レーシングポイントは、1年に2日許されているPR目的の“フィルミングデー”を利用して2020年型マシンを走らせた。“フィルミングデー”走行の場合、距離は100km以下に制限され、デモ走行用タイヤを使用しなければならない。

　アルファタウリは24日、2020年型と2018年型2台を用いて走行を行った。クビアトとガスリーのふたりは、それぞれアルファタウリAT01・ホンダとトロロッソSTR13・ホンダの両方をドライブした。トロロッソは今年、チーム名をアルファタウリに変更した。

　走行を終えたガスリーは「久しぶりにサーキットを走ることができて本当にうれしかった」と語っている。

「F1マシンで走る感覚をずっと味わえずにいたので、STR13とAT01で走った時は信じられないような気分だった」

「2台のマシンで走行し、スムーズな一日を送った。今朝目覚めた時、興奮してハッピーな気持ちだった。今夜も同じ気持ちで眠りにつくことができる」

「イモラは大好きなサーキットのひとつだから、ここでF1カーを走らせることは特別な体験だった」

「オーストリアへの準備は整ったと思う」

　クビアトは久しぶりにイモラで走る機会を持てたことを喜んでいる。

「今日イモラで走ることができ、最高の気分だ。2010年にフォーミュラBMWの初テストでここを走ったことがある。2012年にはフォーミュラ・ルノー・アルプスでレースをした」

「今日のフィルミングデーで、チームとともに久しぶりにこのサーキットに戻ってきた。イモラは高速コーナーがたくさんあって、走っていて楽しい。F1カレンダーにまた組み込まれる価値のあるサーキットだと思う」

「久々にF1マシンに乗ることができて特別な気分だ。すごく楽しかった」

I had really missed that feeling you get from driving so it was incredible to be back in the STR13 and the AT01. We had a really smooth day, doing some laps in both cars. I’ve known the track for a while now because I did one of my first tests here for Formula BMW in 2010 and a race for Formula Renault Alps in 2012 and today I’ve finally returned for a filming day with the team. Imola is a track which is really nice to drive with lots of fast turns and I think it’s a track which really deserves to return to the F1 calendar. It was a special feeling today being back in the car after such a long break and I really enjoyed it”
